Alma Thomas (1891-1978) was a junior high school art teacher for 35 years before she retired, focused entirely on her art, and became recognized as one of the major American painters of the 20th century. Known mostly for the brilliant use of color in her abstract paintings, her work has been displayed in prominent museums across the United States.
