Saris that may have a tear in them are no longer suitable for wearing but have plenty of beautiful material to cut up into new, upcycled uses, like these cheerful coasters. Ethically handcrafted in small batches by environmentalist artisans with Prokritee, an organization in Bangladesh that provides jobs and skills training for women in under-resourced communities. Prokritee improves women's standard of living with safe jobs, fair wages, and the goal of self-reliance, helping mothers send their children to school to break the cycle of generational poverty. It employs women traditionally excluded from the market: widows, heads of households, rural poor, or landless without another source of income.
